The Porsche Carrera GT is an automotive masterpiece and has a legacy of being one of the most highly coveted supercars of all time. Over the course of its two-year manufacturing process stemming from 2004 through 2007, a total of 1,270 Porsche Carrera GTs were produced.

Porsche initially planned on making 1,500 vehicles but cancelled production after 1,270 due to changing airbag regulations in the United States. Of those 1,270 Porsche Carrera GTs sold, 644 of them made it to the United States, 31 to Canada, and 49 to the United Kingdom.

The predecessor to the Porsche Carrera GT is none other than the also highly coveted Porsche 959. The vehicle to succeed the Carrera GT is the Porsche 918, one of the most technologically advanced hypercars ever produced.

There was only one model of the Porsche Carrera GT produced featuring a 5.7 Liter V10 Engine and a 6-speed manual transmission. The Carrera GT is able to run 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 205 miles per hour due to the 603 bhp horsepower it created.

This Porsche Carrera GT Service Guide provides a recommended maintenance schedule allowing Carrera GT owners an opportunity to maintain their unique German supercar in the best condition possible. Preventative maintenance is key in extending the longevity of Porsches most hardcore race derived hypercar, as well as avoiding any costly repairs.

Porsche Carrera GT Service Guide Interior

Engine, Oil, Transmission, Clutch

The Porsche Carrera GT is only available with a 6-speed manual transmission with a two plate ceramic dry clutch (Porsche Ceramic Composite Clutch – PCCC).

Porsche Carrera GT Oil Filter

Each Porsche Carrera GT Oil Change & Filter replacement comes with the rubber sealing gasket and appropriate crush washer. Porsche recommends changing this filter every 5,000 miles or every two years, whichever comes first.

Brakes, Rotors, Pads, Fluids

The Porsche Carrera GT is fitted with the Carbon fibre Silicon Carbide ceramic composite brake system (C/SiC). This features a 15-inch (380mm) SGL Carbon disc brake allowing the Porsche Carrera GT to have one of the fastest 70-0 braking distances in only 145 feet (44 meters) breaking the record previously set by the Toyota Supra (149 feet or 45 meters).

Porsche recommends changing the brake pads and fluid 20,000 miles or every 2 years (which ever comes first)

Tires, Suspension, & Alignment

Tires are a very important aspect that owners tend to overlook. The difference between a car with proper tires and a car with cheap tires is enormous.

Acceleration, braking, handling, and even ride quality is affected by the type of tire on the car. The Porsche Carrera GT comes on a stock tire size of;

FRONT TIRES: 265/35R19

REAR TIRES: 335/30R20

Tire wear can vary greatly depending on how the vehicle is driven, however, other factors such as suspension geometry, tire pressures and driving environment can also affect tire wear.

GI Automotive has a wide selection of tires for the Porsche Carrera GT and we would be happy to consult on the perfect fit for your driving needs.

Suspension geometry and set-up is a crucial aspect in regards to not only tire wear, but how the car behaves while driving.

Regular alignment checks will help keep the tire wearing even and keep the car behaving as the superb engineers in Germany intended.

The Porsche Carrera GT Service Guide recommends that camber, caster, toe, and height be adjusted to OEM spec, or a custom specification if necessary.

The suspension should also be inspected annually for any leaks, cracks, or play. The active suspension should be checked for calibration and proper operation as well. This also includes a physical inspection of the springs and dampers.

Other aspects that many Carrera GT collectors or buyers overlook is that most of the high-performance rubber components (brushings, hoses, brake & vacuum lines, coolant & heating hoses) start to degrade naturally after 10 years. This happens even if a Carrera GT has been sitting in proper storage.

It is prudent to have a full inspection done of the car in order to check for any signs of rubber degrading that might fail while driving.  Hoses or brushings that look slightly worn may fail sooner than you think after the 10-year period.

Porsche Carrera GT Service Guide Spark Plugs

In order to make sure that all components are working properly, a  visual inspection of the entire vehicle should be conducted during each service. This includes inspecting for any leaks or accelerated wear and tear.

Note that the Porsche Carrera GT Service Guide recommends these tips if the car is driven regularly on public roads. If the vehicle is tracked, wear and tear will be accelerated and should be serviced earlier and more frequently than the schedule outlined above.
