While belts and hoses may not be perceived by some as the major components of your car, you could damage your engine if something is wrong with them before it’s too late. That’s why it’s crucial to perform visual checks annually, and have your belts and hoses routinely inspected because they don’t often provide direct signs of failure.

Newer cars have a Serpentine (multi-accessory) drive belt. Serpentine belts, also known as drive belts, provide power to the AC compressor, power steering pump, cooling fans, air injection pump, and more. If your vehicle’s serpentine belt breaks, all of the engine parts it is powering will stop working and your engine could overheat and be damaged. Many older luxury or exotic cars have separate accessory belts that separately drive the alternator, the power-steering pump, the AC compressor, the water pump, and more.

Belts are typically made out of rubber with high-tensile fibers (e.g. fiberglass or Twaron/Kevlar) running the length of the belt as tensioners. The belt itself is constructed of rubber like materials such as molded polyurethaneneoprene or welded urethane, all of which degrade and fail over time. When it comes to your engine, timing is everything. Yes you also have a timing belt. The timing belt is responsible for synchronizing the crankshaft to the camshafts. It ensures that all the necessary valves open and shut on cue with the pistons.

The timing belt is essential for keeping your engine running smoothly and efficiently. In order to function correctly, the timing belt must be properly tensioned. Loose belts are often the cause of many engine and timing issues. Additionally, the timing belt controls other engine components and accessories, including the water pump, balance shaft, intermediate shaft, fuel injection and oil pump operation. You always want to replace the timing belt before it fails otherwise you run a high risk of damaging other engine components on your luxury or exotic car.

Hoses such as Coolant and heater hoses, are your vehicles cooling system’s weakest structural component. They are made of flexible rubber compounds to absorb and reduce vibrations between the engine and radiator, or, in the case of heater hoses, the engine and body’s firewall. The belts and hoses on your car are susceptible to heat exposure, corrosive coolants, engine vibration, and contamination when not maintained, making them wear out faster than most other components in your car.

Coolant hoses include the upper and lower radiator hoses plus heater hoses. Some cars include a bypass hose. Hoses provide a flexible connection for coolant flow between the engine, radiator, engine and heating block. If any of your coolant hoses fail and start to leak you might not notice your engine running hot or overheating in time before damaging your luxury or exotic car engine. It’s crucial that you have your belts & hoses inspected annually along with your coolant system and radiator.

Routine inspections and maintenance ensure; peak performance, maximum fuel efficiency and help prevent costly unnecessary repairs in the future. Because most belts and hoses fail on the inside, it’s difficult to determine the exact condition by outward appearances.

We will help ensure that your car’s belts and hoses are in perfect working condition so your car operates properly and reliably, particularly during the hot summer months or cold winter months’ mountainside.

It’s also advisable to replace the clamps that keep the hoses in place because the constant tension can weaken the bond over time. That’s why regular inspection and maintenance is essential to keep your vehicle running smoothly.
